What people are saying about Finestra Wines

Philip Rich from Halliday Wine Companion reviewed the following wines:

dalla mia Finestra Chardonnay 2025: From the Denton vineyard. Barrel fermented and matured in seasoned barriques, with 20% mlf. Bright green gold. Forward and attractive aromas of ripe nectarine, orange blossom and a touch of oak-derived spice. It's generous on the palate, without being heavy, with a fine bead of acidity keeping it fresh and balanced. A well-priced wine to drink now and over the next two to three years.” 93 points.

dalla Mia Finestra Pinot Noir 2024: From the home block at Finestra in Coldstream, planted in '89 and '96. 90% destemmed and matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright crimson red. A lifted bouquet of ripe red fruits, spice and a smidgen of undergrowth. Not lacking for flavour, the medium-bodied palate is driven as much by the wine's brisk acidity as its light, gently grippy tannins. Will be even better in six to 12 months and should continue to become more complex over the next three to five years.”  93 points.

dalla Mia Finestra Shiraz 2024: From the home block, planted in '96; 30% whole bunches. A brilliant crimson purple. Another perfumed, medium-bodied Finestra shiraz. Aromas of red and black fruits, potpourri, star anise and pink peppercorns lead onto the medium-bodied, energetic and very well-balanced palate. The tannins are even and persistent. An excellent effort that will reward at least six to eight years of cellaring.” 96 points.

dalla Mia Finestra Cabernet Sauvignon 2024: 10% merlot/malbec. From the home block vineyard, planted next door to Yeringberg in '89. A lovely bright crimson. Bottled earlier than usual and it's certainly the freshest (and best) Finestra cabernet I've tasted. A very pure cassis nose that sits alongside a hint of pencil shavings and crushed violet. It's ripe without being heavy on the palate with discreet, persistent tannins giving the wine both structure and length. Drink now and over the next eight to 10 years.” 96 points.

Respected wine critic Gary Walsh from the Winefront has written to following reviews of our wines. Note: some reviews are for prior vintages:

dalla mia Finestra Cabernet Sauvignon: 2019 “Redcurrant, rosehip, a little cedar and mint. It’s a medium-bodied, classic old school Yarra Cabernet in style, and very good in that way. It’s a little sappy, with fine dusty tannin grip, fresh strawberry and assorted red fruits, feels well etched, if that makes any sense, and the finish is all red fruit and tobacco, with a gentle grip to close and good length. Lovely wine, and most likely better again with a few more years under its belt. 92+ points"

dalla mia Finestra Chardonnay 2022 "Nectarine, lime, nuts, a little cedar and spice. It’s glossy and gently viscous, with a saline and savoury flavour, bright and tight citrus acidity through creaminess, lime and grapefruit, an edge of tropical fruit too, some pith-like texture and grip, with an intense and juicy citrus finish of excellent length. A bit different, and very good in that way too. Excellent. 94 points"

dalla mia Finestra Shiraz 2022 "Blue and purple fruit, cracked pepper and meat, aromatic dried herbs. Medium-bodied, nutty and quite meaty, spicy too,  a gentle chewiness to tannin, with a fleshy boysenberry/black berry finish of good length. Plenty of personality. 93 points"
