2024 dalla mia Finestra Pinot Noir
Source: Pinot Noir sourced from two blocks on the home vineyard, one planted in 1989 and the other in 1996.
Clone: 100% MV6 Clone
Winemaking Notes: picked on 20 February 2024, 30% whole bunches were retained, with the balance of fruit fully de-stemmed.
After cold soaking the fermentations started naturally in two open-pot stainless steel fermenters. Caps were hand-plunged twice daily. On completion of the primary fermentation the wine was pressed to a combination of seasoned oak barriques and hogsheads where it underwent malolactic fermentation prior to bottling after twelve months.
The fruit and wine from the 1989 and 1996 blocks were kept separate throughout the above process until the final assemblage took place prior to bottling. The wine has been bottled unfined and unfiltered to maximise the inherent characters of Pinot Noir grown on our vineyard.
Wine Characteristics: A bright crimson colour with a vibrant bouquet of red cherries, cranberries, some rose petal and the spices that are characteristic of this vineyard. At 12.75% ABV the wine is light to medium bodied, brightly fruited with good acidity and crunchy balanced tannins.
Reviews: “From the home block at Finestra in Coldstream, planted in '89 and '96. 90% destemmed and matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright crimson red. A lifted bouquet of ripe red fruits, spice and a smidgen of undergrowth. Not lacking for flavour, the medium-bodied palate is driven as much by the wine's brisk acidity as its light, gently grippy tannins. Will be even better in six to 12 months and should continue to become more complex over the next three to five years.” 93 points. Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
